Stem cell science is a field that attracts considerable public interest and expectation. Our initiative is committed to forging a deeper community understanding about the promise and the reality of stem cell research, and its clinical application, as well as influencing policy to support the effective development of new stem cell based medicines.
The
Engagement, Ethics and Policy (EEP) Program aims to enhance community awareness and understanding about the achievements made by members of the Stem Cells Australia initiative and other national and international scientists. Importantly, we seek to contextualise the potential societal impact of such discoveries in this fast-paced and fascinating field.
Led by
Professor Megan Munsie this program aims to develop and deliver innovative strategies to engage with patients, their families and friends, healthcare professionals, regulators, policy makers, industry, teachers, students and interested community groups. The program is enabled by an extensive network of national and international collaborators from academia, government, industry and the philanthropic sector.
This program is fully integrated with the
Regenerative Medicine,
Disease Modelling and
Designer Cells programs and focuses on how to identify, discuss and address ethical, legal and societal considerations raised by their research. EEP also contributes to other activities such as training and capacity building within Stem Cells Australia’s network.
With a strong trans-disciplinary focus, the EEP program enjoys ongoing collaborations with leading national and international experts in law, ethics, sociology, public policy and education and draws heavily on these links to deliver its activities.
Stem Cells Australia is committed to setting the standards to support development of the next generation stem cell based medicines.
